The Book of Colossians is the most Christo-centric book in the Bible. It was written by Paul when in prison. Sometimes God has to arrest us so that we can be more productive to Him that when we are at our best.
The Church of Colossae was founded by Epaphras after he meet Paul and was converted in Ephesus. Paul allowed him to go and preach in his home town.
Because of its geographical location in a major trade route, the Church at Colossae began to meander from the truth due to the different faiths in the city. At least there were four major teachings which were confusing the young believers. These were the Judaism, animism, mystical and Christianity. Hence Epaphras went to ask for advice from Paul. And because Paul was under arrest, he just wrote a letter to correct them and make them to focus on Christ.
Paul sought for the saints to be filled with the knowledge of the will of God, which also Epaphras prayed for the saints in Colossian 4:12. The will of God is so important for all to be able to stand on it.
Paul showed the saints that the simplicity of the gospel is a relationship with Christ and this should be shown in daily life in the Church, in the home and in the place of work. Surprisingly these are the places where we can be traced to be at any time of our life. That’s why the three kinds of letters which Paul wrote, i.e. the letters to individuals, to the Churches and also general letters can be classified as addresses to these areas of life.
The book of Colossians is classic book which I would urge every Christian to read and especially memorize the whole of chapter three.
