STUDY KEYS OR GUIDELINES FOR THE VARIOUS BOOK OF THE BIBLE

 

The Book of Habakkuk

1. The name Habakkuk means “embrace”
2. The book was the last of the Minor Prophets to the Southern kingdom.
3. Habakkuk functions more like a Priest than a Prophet. He speaks more to God about the people than to the people about God.

 

Questions in the Book of Habakkuk
2. The book seems to have been written by the doubting Thomas of the Old Testament.
The doubts, cries, signs and whys of Habakkuk were:
(a). How can God allow the sins of Israel go unpunished?
(b). How can God allow a godless nation to punish Israel?

The Just Shall Live by Faith
Habakkuk states one of the greatest statements about the way God desires us to live: The just shall live by faith. This statement is emphasized like in three ways as following: The word “just” is emphasized in Romans 1:17, the Words, “shall live” is emphasized in Galatians 3:11 while the word “faith” is emphasized in the Book of Hebrews 10:38

The Answer of God to Habakkuk
The assurances of God to Habakkuk: God informs the prophet that He was to punish Israel for her sins through her foes (the Babylonians) and He was to punish Babylon through His woes.

The prophet’s reaction after God’s answer

1. His soul is Revived (Habakkuk 3:2)
2. His heart Rejoices (Habakkuk 3:18)
3. His work is Renewed (Habakkuk 3:19)

 

Conclusion
We should CONTINUE to live by faith and in total trust that God is still in control of the earth and He does not allow sin on the earth to prevail and that one day He shall be King on earth.

 

 

The Book of Haggai

1. The Book is the second shortest book in the Old Testament.
2. This was the first prophetic voice to be heard after the Babylonian captivity.

The Theme and Message of Haggai: Build God’s House and your houses shall be blessed

There were two major problems which the people had which the prophet was send to address.

1. The people were saying, we can not AFFORD TO build the Temple, but the prophet answered and told them that they can not AFFORD NOT TO build it. (Haggai 1:1-5)
2. The people were complaining that the second Temple was much smaller than the fist one but the prophet told them to rejoice for the final Temple shall be bigger than both combined (Haggai 2:9).

 

Conclusion

We are to build God’s house and then God will build our houses, what we do for God can not be compared to what God will do for us.

 

The Book of Zephaniah

Theme: Tell all people to, Prepare for the day of trouble is coming.

1. The Book has the phrase “the day of the LORD” is mentioned more in this book more than any other book in the Bible. It predicts the coming of the great tribulation.
2. The Book predicts that God will rest after completing His great work of redemption. (3:17).

 

Conclusion

Although the Book speaks of a coming time of trouble, the Book shows how God will be provided with a pure language so that they may pray properly and then serve God with one accord. Zephaniah 3:9)

Today: September 13th, ,  ACTS CHAPTER 1.

Lessons learned:

The Persons who qualify to read it

1. The book is written to Theophilus.(Acts 1:1).  The name Theophilus is from two words , ‘Theo’ which means God and ‘Philus’ which means ‘lover of’. Hence, ‘Theophilus ’ can basically means, a lover of God. So any body who wants to glean blessing from this book must be a lover of God who must have studied the book of Luke so that we can follow the effects of what being with the Lord Jesus Christ can do in the life of a person.

 

The Power behind the Book

2. The book begins with the setting of the power behind the acts. The Power is the Holy Spirit also called the promise of the Father.

 

The People behind the Book 

3. The book shows the chosen and the called people through whom the Holy Spirit is working through. Here we see the obedient apostles. (Acts 1:3).

 

The Progressiveness of the Kingdom

4. The book shows the progressiveness of the Kingdom of God to the uttermost parts of the earth. (Acts 1:6-8)

 

The key verse for Chapter 1

Acts 1:8 But ye [the Apostles and Every person] shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses [of Jesus and His Kingdom] unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
